We offer a range of internships and training programs to help you make the transition from education to employment.

Internships

Both graduates and undergraduates can benefit from opportunities to work alongside our professionals and independently on challenging projects for existing clients. If you have drive and enthusiasm, are ready to roll up your sleeves and get involved in the day-to-day work of a dynamic, growing company our intern positions are available year-round, at both undergraduate and graduate level, across a range of industries.

Training programs

South East Asia

Chemist training program
We offer a comprehensive chemist training program for participants from the South East Asia region. This structured training program, based in Australia, runs for two years and consists of six modules, followed by approximately six weeks spent on mine site rotations.

Trainees learn all aspects of general laboratory techniques, including:

  • Sample weighing and preparation
  • Digestion
  • Fire assay
  • XRF, ICPOES and ICPMS
  • Quality control and quality assurance
  • Classical chemistry techniques

On completion of the course, participants return to their home countries to work with SGS locally.

Thailand

Normally, SGS in Thailand welcomes both fresh graduates and undergraduates as trainees, especially in our laboratory services, SSC and environmental services divisions. In 2014, we recruited more than 30 interns (18 in lab services, 10 in environmental services and the rest in SSC) to join our experts and gain vital on the job experience, for an eight week period during April and May.

Singapore

In Singapore we run internship programs ranging from one to six months and available throughout the year. Undergraduates joining one of our internship programs will develop their skills in the workplace, both professionally and personally. At the same time, our programs enable you to apply skills gained through education in a practical environment. We welcome application from students specializing in the following areas:

  • Sciences – chemistry, environment, pharmaceuticals, microbiology, food, etc.
  • Engineering
  • Marine
  • Business
  • Communication and media

Europe

Laboratory technician apprenticeships
Aimed at GCSE and A level students in the UK, our Ellesmere Port laboratory runs a Laboratory Technician Apprenticeship program. All apprentices attend college one day a week to continue their formal education. During the training:

  • GCSE students will complete an ONC science course over a two year period with an NVQ requirement
  • A level students will complete a HNC chemistry course over a two year period with an NVQ requirement

On completion of the apprenticeship, participants continue to work with SGS locally.
