Revision of ASTM D5489-18 Standard Guide for Care Symbols for Care Instructions on Textile Products

The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) recently revised their Standard Guide for Care Symbols for Care Instructions on Textile Products. The 2018 edition was revised to better align with the ISO symbols and to clarify the US Care Labelling Law which cites the ASTM D5489-96c edition.
Vietnam Postponed the Regulations on the Requirements of Formaldehyde and Azo Dyes in Textile Products

On April 26, 2018, the Vietnam Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) issued Circular No. 07/2018/TT-BCT to postpone the effective date of Circular No. 21/2017/TT-BCT, the regulation on the requirements of formaldehyde and azo dyes in textile products, from May 1, 2018 to January 1, 2019.

US CARB Publishes Two Articles to Assist the Composite Wood Products Industry

US CARB has announced that it will accept compliant composite wood products that are labeled as TSCA Title VI compliant. The agency also provided a comparison between CARB and US EPA requirements to assist the composite wood products industry.
U.S. – San Francisco Bans the Sale of New Fur Apparel and Accessories

On March 20, 2018, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a ban on the sale of new fur apparel and accessories in the city of San Francisco. The ordinance will go into effect on January 1, 2019.
USDA AMS Proposes US National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard

The USDA AMS has issued the proposed US national bioengineered food disclosure standard. The requirement for food labeling of genetically modified products and ingredients will allow the US consumers to have knowledge of what is and isn’t produce from genetic modification.
